Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day 2014 (with photos)

     The Civil Aid Service (CAS) held the Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day 2014 with several government departments and mountaineering organisations today (October 19) at Joy Square, Tin Shui Shopping Centre, Tin Shui Wai, to enhance the public's knowledge of mountaineering safety in order to reduce the accident rate of mountaineering activities.

     An opening ceremony was attended by officiating guests including the Acting Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Dr Cheng Cho-ming, and representatives of the CAS, the Fire Services Department, the Office of the Communications Authority, the Auxiliary Medical Service, the Government Flying Service, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and mountaineering organisations.

     Mountaineering equipment, such as digital maps, global positioning system devices, night vision goggles and weather maps, were displayed. Mountain rescue and casualty handling skills were also demonstrated to introduce mountaineering safety to the public.

     In addition, other spectacular performances were arranged for the public by the Police Dog Unit, CAS Band, a CAS Cadet Corps side drum team and a bicycle demonstration team.
