Police started an operation to remove the illegal barriers on traffic lanes in Mong Kok at about 5.20am this morning (October 17). The operation aimed to re-open some thoroughfares in Mong Kok and cleared the access for emergency vehicles in order to reduce the impact imposed by the barriers on the public. The operation has been completed.
Police reiterated that Police did not carry out clearance operation this morning and people who illegally occupied the roads still have sufficient space to express their views. Police have also set up a designated public activity area on the pavement outside No.664 Nathan Road to facilitate them.
However, there are still some people occupying a section of southbound Nathan Road between Argyle Street and Shantung Street. Police appeal to them to leave the traffic lanes as soon as possible and make use of the designated public activity area to express their opinions so that public order and the traffic thereat can be fully resumed.
To ensure public safety and public order, Police will continue to take actions to clear barriers on traffic lanes in other districts in appropriate time. Police advise all protesters to follow Police officersˇ¦ instructions and not to obstruct Policeˇ¦s operations and charge Police officers. Protesters are also urged to remove the road barriers as soon as possible and leave the scenes peacefully and orderly.
