SCED meets with Hong Kong Retail Management Association to gain a better understanding of impact of "Occupy Central" on sales (with photo)
************************************************************

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (October 3) met with the Chairperson of Hong Kong Retail Management Association (the Association), Ms Caroline Mak, to listen to the Association's views and gain a better understanding of the impact of the "Occupy Central" movement on the retail sales especially during the Golden Week holiday.

Mr So was told that the retail business suffered various degrees of decline in sales during the past few days. The hardest hit areas were among traditionally popular shopping districts where a significant number of protesters gathered. As to the extent of the drop in sales, the Association is currently conducting a survey, the results of which are expected to be released in a few days.

Mr So noted the industry's concern on the impact of the "Occupy Central" movement and said the SAR Government will monitor the latest development and continue to maintain close liaison with the retail sector and the Association during this time.
