Police arrest 61 people for unlawful assembly
*********************************************

Regarding the forced entry by protesters into the East Wing Forecourt (the Forecourt) of the CGO yesterday (September 26), the participants ignored Police's repeated appeals to them to leave the scene. About 1.30pm today (September 27), Police took actions to remove them and made arrests.

During the operation, Police arrested 61 persons, including 48 men and 13 women, aged between 17 and 58, for forcible entry into government premises and unlawful assembly. A 27-year-old man was also arrested for possession of offensive weapon. All arrestees are being detained for enquiries.

A Police spokesman reiterated that the public meeting being held on Tim Mei Avenue near CGO was unlawful. Police appeal to members of the public, especially students and underage people, not to participate in any illegal activity and not to go to the vicinity.

Police respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. Members of the public should comply with the laws of Hong Kong and maintain social order when expressing their views.
