Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 626 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 59 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (September 25).  
  
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 314 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.   
  
     A total of 492 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 134 for other traffic offences.   
  
     Three pedestrians and 66 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.   
  
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,996 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August this year, of which 617 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 43.6 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
