FS announces re-appointment of CEO of SFC

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (September 25) announced the re-appointment of Mr Ashley Alder as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for a term of three years with effect from October 1, 2014.

     The appointment was approved by the Chief Executive under the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571).

     Mr Tsang said, "Under Mr Alder's leadership in the past few years, the SFC has maintained Hong Kong's market integrity with continuous regulatory updates and effective enforcement, as well as active participation in the global fora.

     "Not only has the SFC continued to be an effective and respected financial regulator, it has also been taking forward actively various initiatives to facilitate market development, in particular the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.

     "These together have contributed significantly to maintaining Hong Kong's position as an international financial centre."

     Mr Tsang added, "I have every confidence that Mr Alder will continue to contribute to the work of the SFC in the new term."

Profile of Mr Ashley Alder

     Aged 55, Mr Alder attained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London in 1982 and graduated from the University of Cambridge with the Master of Laws degree in 1983. He worked for the SFC as its Executive Director (Corporate Finance) from 2001 to 2004. He has assumed the position of CEO of the SFC since October 1, 2011, prior to which he was a partner and Head of Asia of Herbert Smith.
