BD launches Minor Works Control System mobile app (with photo)

The Buildings Department (BD) today (September 25) launched the mobile application "Quick Guide for Minor Works" to provide the public with a handy way to access information about the procedures and requirements for carrying out minor works.

The Minor Works Control System (MWCS) has been implemented since December 31, 2010. Through the simplified requirements of the MWCS, the public may carry out minor alteration and addition works safely and lawfully.

The app offers three quick search methods. Users can search for the class and the type of the proposed minor works by selecting scenarios, minor works categories or minor works items. They just need to answer a few simple questions and will be told the class and the type of the proposed works. Users may then make use of the register provided in the app to choose a suitable registered building contractor to carry out the works. The app also provides a register of authorized persons and registered structural engineers who may be appointed to prepare building plans and supervise the contractor in carrying out Class I minor works.

The app also explains the relevant procedures and provides checklists for documents to be submitted. Building professionals and/or contractors may refer to the sample forms provided in the app when preparing to submit documents to the BD.

The app also helps users to know more about the procedures and requirements for joining the Household Minor Works Validation Scheme and the Validation Scheme for Unauthorised Signboards.

The app is available in traditional and simplified Chinese and English. The version for iOS devices can now be downloaded from the App Store. The version for Android devices is being developed and will be launched in early November this year. Further details about the app are available on the BD's Homepage ( and thematic website "Care for Your Building" (
