SWD launches "Wisdom of Parenting - Joy with Grandparents" animations
***********************************************************

With the ageing of our population, inter-generational families are increasingly common. The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has specially produced a series of animations titled "Wisdom of Parenting - Joy with Grandparents" to focus on ways to foster better relationships among family members of different ages and promote their mutual understanding, so as to nurture harmonious family life.

The animations have four different themes. Through the interactive dialogues of a family of four with the grandparents and a "wise man", the animations offer vital tips on how parents and children can get along well with elderly persons and foster mutual support.

"We hope to bring out the importance of inter-generational harmony through these animations and encourage family members to live in concord and unity," an SWD spokesman said.

"Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs), operated by the SWD and subvented non-governmental organisations, provide a spectrum of services so as to meet the changing needs of families in a holistic manner," he said. At present, there is an extensive network of 65 IFSCs across the territory and two Integrated Services Centres in Tung Chung to provide a range of preventive, supportive and remedial family services to strengthen resilience among family members of different ages and render them timely support services to help restore family functioning.

The series of animations is now available on the SWD homepage www.swd.gov.hk for public viewing and will be broadcast on public buses from today (September 15) to September 28.

For more information on knowledge and skills in fostering inter-generational relationships, or family welfare services provided by the SWD, please call the SWD hotline on 2343 2255.
