The "Design Ideas Competition for Kai Tak River ¡E Kai Tak Development" is open for entries from today (August 26). Qualified professionals and the general public are invited to contribute innovative design concepts on the section of the Kai Tak River within the Kai Tak Development Area to serve as a reference for the project in the future.

Speaking at a media briefing today, the Head of the Kai Tak Office under the Civil Engineering and Development Department, Ms Ying Fun-fong, said, "The Kai Tak River is a crucial landmark of the Kai Tak Development that links closely with the hinterland of Wong Tai Sin District. The Government has been carrying out improvement works in the upstream and midstream sections of the Kai Tak River to turn it into an attractive green river corridor through urban areas, providing more space for leisure and public activities while improving the drainage capacity in East Kowloon.

"The theme of the competition is 'Meandering Sentiments'. We hope to solicit innovative urban and landscape design ideas to transform the Kai Tak River into a people-oriented place with a mixture of vibrancy and tranquility for enjoyment and relaxation, integrating with the surrounding districts and thereby creating a more closely-knit community."
