Transcript of remarks by CS at media session (with photo/video)
***************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session after meeting with organisers of the Occupy Central with Love and Peace (Occupy Central) campaign at the Central Government Offices this afternoon (July 29):

Reporter: Did you try to convince the Occupy Central organisers to drop their plan, and what are the responses? And why do you say their plan cannot force the Central Government to back down?

Chief Secretary for Administration: Well, I don't think we could convince the conveners of Occupy Central to drop their plan. As you all know, they have been planning this movement for quite some time. But I did very sincerely explain to them that we do not condone the practice nor do we agree with the objective. The practice is to occupy Central or even to paralyse Central, and this practice is sort of not acceptable because it will cause a lot of disruption to the daily operation of our central business district, and indeed quite a lot of business organisations and groups in society have expressed their concern recently, and so I have brought this to their attention.

As far as the objective, I think it would not be possible to try to coerce the Central Authorities into a particular position on this important subject of selection of the Chief Executive by threatening to do some sort of action like Occupy Central. So I really do hope that they will take our advice before they consider the way forward.

Reporter: Are you planning to join the other government officials and sign the anti-Occupy Central ...?

Chief Secretary for Administration: I have not signed on the signature campaign yet.
