The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO) and the Taichung City Government will jointly hold an intercity forum on July 31 (Thursday) to further promote exchanges between Hong Kong and Taichung City. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, and the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, will separately lead a delegation to attend the forum.
Focusing on the development of medical services and tourism promotion, the forum will be attended by senior government officials, experts and members of the two professions of the two places.
Building on the success of the Hong Kong-Taipei Intercity Forum co-organised with the Taipei City Government in June last year, HKETCO has extended the intercity platform to Taichung City this year to conduct in-depth exchanges on city development strategies and experiences in enhancing people's livelihood, with a view to deepening the interaction between the two cities, an HKETCO spokesman said today (July 29).
The Mayor of Taichung City, Mr Jason Hu, will give the opening address at the 2014 Hong Kong-Taichung Intercity Forum.
Also, Mr So and the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Anthony Lau, will give keynote speeches on Hong Kong's characteristic tourism and creative tourism marketing respectively.
Dr Ko and Assistant Director of Health Dr Ronald Lam will also speak on the development of Hong Kong's Chinese medical services and the Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards as keynote speakers.
Other Taiwan speakers will include the Director-General of the Taichung City Government's Tourism Bureau, Mr Chang Ta-chun; the Director and Superintendent of Center for International Development of Taiwan's China Medical University Hospital, Mr Hsu Su-ming; and the Vice Superintendent of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, Mr Tung Jui-lung.
The HKETCO Director, Mr John Leung, and the Deputy Mayor of Taichung City, Mr Tsai Ping-kun, will speak at the close of the forum.
