The Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Raymond Young, officiated at the launch ceremony for Hong Kong Week at the International Horticultural Exposition 2014 Qingdao this afternoon (June 26).

Mr Young said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government valued the opportunity to participate in the Expo and had organised Hong Kong Week to help mark the event. A series of cultural programmes at Hong Kong Week will give visitors a taste of the city's energy and provide Hong Kong's young artists with an opportunity to show visitors from all over the world their creativity and versatility.

The six-day Hong Kong Week event will take place from June 26 until July 1 at the performance stage in the Expo International Garden. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has organised a series of cultural programmes based on the theme "Arts for Life", to be performed by five Hong Kong youth ensembles and dance groups. The five arts groups are the Wind Ensemble of the LCSD's Music Office, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups' Hong Kong Melody Makers, singer-songwriter Jing Wong, band ToNick and tap dance group Rhythm & Tempo.

After officiating at the launch ceremony, Mr Young accompanied guests on a tour of the Hong Kong Garden, where representatives of the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) and the LCSD briefed them on the garden's design and characteristics.

The Expo opened on April 25 and runs till October 25. The Hong Kong Garden is titled "Hong Kong - A Livable City" and features a series of triangular pavilions that evoke Hong Kong's hilly landscape. Four themed areas showcase Hong Kong's natural landscape and introduce visitors to the natural resources and habitats of Hong Kong's countryside. The project was designed and built by the ArchSD, with plants and floral displays provided by the LCSD.
