Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 699 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 43 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (June 23).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 313 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
     A total of 525 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 174 for other traffic offences.
     Five pedestrians and 38 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1 231 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May this year, of which 356 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 47.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
