A total of 276 winners of the Hongkong Bank Foundation Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2013 were commended today (May 24) for their outstanding contributions in disseminating anti-drug messages, fight crime messages, organising and participating in community services, and promoting the JPC Scheme.
They received commendation trophies from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Lo Wai-chung; and the Group General Manager & Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific of HSBC, Mr Raymond Cheng, at the presentation ceremony.
At the ceremony, Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), Mr Hui Chun-tak, said that adopting an inter-departmental multi-agency approach, the JPC Scheme organised various fight crime and anti-drug activities as well as different kinds of training to help members acquire positive values and develop their potential.
Relevant information was promoted through multi-media platforms such as Police Public Page and Hong Kong Police YouTube Channel to enhance communication with the youth and encourage their participation in the Scheme.
The Scheme also helped promote racial harmony in the community by organising various activities and training to engage the non-ethnic Chinese community.
Mr Hui thanked JPC honorary presidents, school principals, teachers, JPC district councils and school clubs for their unfailing support and made the scheme a success.
Mr Cheng said HSBC has been a strong supporter of education, in particular projects that help students to have holistic development. HSBC is proud to have funded the Junior Police Call Awards Scheme since 1986 with the view to encouraging the youth of Hong Kong to serve the community, develop their potential and nurture their leadership skills.
Organised by the Police and sponsored by the Hongkong Bank Foundation, the Awards comprises five categories, namely Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Primary School), Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and Best JPC District Council.
A selection panel comprising representatives from the PPRB, HSBC and JPC Central Advisory Board picked the winners from those recommended by districts.
Miss Chan Wai-sze from Yuen Long District was selected as the Best JPC Member and Miss Ng Hing-ying from Tai Po District the Best JPC Advanced Leader. Each received a commendation trophy and $8,000 cash award.
The Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School in Tsuen Wan District and the Fung Kai Innovative School in Tai Po District won the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) awards respectively. The former received a cash award of $13,000 and the latter $9,000. The Best JPC District Council award went to Sham Shui Po JPC District Council, which was honoured with a $21,000 cash award.
