Stage 2 Community Engagement for "Planning and Engineering Study for Housing Sites in Yuen Long South - Investigation" launched
************************************************************

The Planning Department and the Civil Engineering and Development Department today (May 12) launched the Stage 2 Community Engagement for the "Planning and Engineering Study for Housing Sites in Yuen Long South ¡V Investigation" to gauge the public's views on the Preliminary Outline Development Plan (PODP). Members of the public are welcome to participate.

Public views were collected in the Stage 1 Community Engagement last year on the constraints, opportunities, key issues and guiding principles for the development of Yuen Long South. Public views received generally supported optimising the development potential of brownfield land for housing purposes and other uses with supporting infrastructure and community facilities to address the territorial demand for housing land and to improve the local environment.

Taking into account the public views collected, the guiding principles and the initial technical assessments conducted, the PODP for the Potential Development Areas of Yuen Long South has now been formulated. The PODP has optimised the land development potential of the Potential Development Areas with consolidation of open storage and rural industrial uses. The Potential Development Areas can accommodate a total population of about 80 200 and provide about 26 100 flats and 10 900 jobs with supporting infrastructure and community facilities. Land is also designated for open storage and rural industrial uses and preservation of active agricultural land.

The Stage 2 Community Engagement will last for two months until July 14. Activities including a community forum, briefings and roving exhibitions will be conducted.

Details of the activities and engagement materials are available at the website of the Study (www.yuenlongsouth.hk/).  Members of the public are invited to send in their comments through the following channels or the electronic comment form at the Study Website on or before July 14:
