Two nominations received for Eastern District Council by-election

     Two nominations were received by the Returning Officer for the by-election in the Nam Fung Constituency of the Eastern District Council by the close of the nomination period today (April 10).

     The nominees' names, occupations, political affiliations and dates of nomination are as follows:

     A full list of the validly nominated candidates will be published in the Gazette after the Returning Officer has validated and confirmed the eligibility of candidature of the nominees.

     A poll will be held on May 18 (Sunday) should there be more than one validly nominated candidate in the constituency. The returned candidate will fill the vacant office of an elected member of the Eastern District Council.

     The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold a briefing for candidates and their agents at the Eastern District Council conference room, 11/F, Eastern Law Courts Building, 29 Tai On Street, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong, at 6.30pm on April 15 (Tuesday).

     The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, will chair the briefing and introduce the guidelines on election-related activities. A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. The Returning Officer and representatives from the Registration and Electoral Office, Hongkong Post and the Department of Justice will also be present.
