Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, a lecture series titled "The Beauty of Chinese Dance" on the aesthetics and character of folk dance across Chinese cultures will be held in May and June.
Hosted by experienced Chinese dance artist Chung Ching, this series aims to extend the distinctive styles and characteristics of Chinese folk dance to explore the aesthetics and character of folk dance across Chinese cultures. Through a progressive study of hand, foot and body movements and the associated emotions, the body language and dance idioms of different ethnic groups are compared and analysed in terms of four areas, namely the movements and configurations of the hands, the pace of ascent of the feet, the turning and dynamic points of the body, and the emotions from within. By demonstration, exposition and participation, audiences will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the emotions and nuances of various dance movements in a relaxed and lively learning environment, enriching their knowledge of Chinese dance and enhancing their aesthetic appreciation of the art form.

May 8 and 15 (Thursdays)

May 22 and 29 (Thursdays)

June 5 and 12 (Thursdays)

June 19 and 26 (Thursdays)
Topic: The emotions from within
All sessions will be held at 7.30pm at the Cultural Activities Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall. Tickets priced at $50 (each session) are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
