Post-secondary students of CSSA families to be included in rent allowance calculation
***********************************************************

With effect from tomorrow (April 1), the Social Welfare Department (SWD) will include post-secondary students of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) families in the calculation of rent allowance, so that the amount of rent allowance will not be affected even if the families have members receiving post-secondary education.

A spokesman for the SWD said today (March 31) that this is one of the new measures of the 2014 Policy Address on enhancing the CSSA Scheme.

"The new measure is in line with the broad policy direction of promoting upward mobility as a means of poverty alleviation through enhancing support for students of CSSA families and relieving the financial burdens of the families. CSSA families with post-secondary members may approach Social Security Field Units to apply for the allowance," he said.

For enquiries, CSSA recipients can call the SWD hotline on 2343 2255 or contact their respective Social Security Field Units.
