An exhibition entitled "Hong Kong in Miniature", which showcases Hong Kong's lifestyle and culture, is being held in Osaka, Japan, from today (March 15).

Organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) and supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the exhibition features 38 miniature models that capture the uniqueness of Hong Kong. The models have been created by 17 artists active in Hong Kong.

The Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Sally Wong, said that the exhibition aims to promote a better understanding of various aspects of Hong Kong by Japanese people and enhance Hong Kong's attractiveness as a travel destination.

"These models vividly depict the essence of Hong Kong's culture and heritage, which is a unique blend of East and West, the old and the new. You can feel the uniqueness and vibrancy of the metropolitan city by viewing these exquisitely made miniature artworks. We hope that, through this exhibition, more people in Japan would be interested in visiting Hong Kong," she said.

The miniature models present Hong Kong's most cherished traditions, its unique culture, the cityscape and details of daily life. The exhibits include the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, the Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree, the former Mount Davis squatter village and models that portray old streets and shops in Hong Kong.

The exhibition is the first of its kind to be held in Japan and is being held until March 23 at Breeze Breeze, a shopping complex in Osaka, in conjunction with a programme entitled "Special Focus on Hong Kong" under the Osaka Asian Film Festival to promote Hong Kong in Osaka.

With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, six Hong Kong movies are being presented in the "Special Focus on Hong Kong" at the Osaka Asian Film Festival from March 7 to 16, giving Japanese movie lovers a chance to feel the vitality of Hong Kong cinema.
