*******************************************************

The Central Policy Unit (CPU) today (March 7) announced that the Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding Scheme will include the subject of Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) as a new indicative research area with immediate effect to encourage academics and researchers to conduct policy research on the implications of the SMW. Eligible applicants are invited to apply.

The SMW was implemented on May 1, 2011. The CPU encourages academics and researchers to study the implications of the SMW on areas such as impact on firms, employees and society, and implications on the economy, the labour market and industrial relations. Research proposals from tertiary institutions and think tanks are welcome. The CPU will process applications once received.

Details of the PPR Funding Scheme, including the eligibility criteria, the indicative research areas, the composition of the Assessment Panel and other information can be found on the CPU website (www.cpu.gov.hk).
