The following is issued on behalf of the Law Reform Commission:
The Law Reform Commission (LRC) today (February 28) announced that Ms Christine Fang has been appointed by the Chief Executive as a member of the Commission for three years with effect from March 1, 2014, replacing the outgoing member, Mrs Pamela Chan, whose second three-year term expired on December 31, 2013.
Ms Fang was the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service from 2001 to 2013, and the Secretary General of the Hong Kong Red Cross from 1993 to 2001. The LRC believes that the expertise and extensive experience of Ms Fang in social work, as well as her distinguished record of public service, would benefit the Commission in law reform.
The LRC expressed its appreciation to Mrs Chan for her valuable contributions to the Commission over the years.
With this latest appointment, the LRC now comprises the following members: Mr Justice Robert Tang Ching; Mr John Budge; Mr Anderson Chow, SC; Mr Eugene Fung, SC; Ms Angela Lee; Professor Lin Feng; Mrs Eleanor Ling; Mr Peter Rhodes and Professor Michael Wilkinson; and Ms Christine Fang.
The LRC is chaired by the Secretary for Justice, and the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal and the Law Draftsman are ex-officio members.
