Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates grants to 216 charitable projects

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $9 million to 216 charitable projects in the areas of medicine and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, education, community service and anti-drug abuse in the 2013 allocation.

     A spokesman for the Fund's Allocation Committee said today (February 28), "The fund's donation enables over 100 organisations to enhance their services, which will benefit a large number of people, especially the underprivileged."

     Major grants included:

* $1.28 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to purchase medical and rehabilitation equipment and to organise education camps for children with special needs;

* $600,000 for Kowloon Hospital to acquire mental rehabilitation equipment;

* $399,000 for the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association to acquire medical equipment for Grantham Hospital;

* $344,000 for the Po Leung Kuk to acquire nursing and rehabilitation equipment and organise programmes for children with special needs;

* $256,000 for the Christian Family Service Centre to purchase furniture and equipment for its elderly centres and family service centres;

* $237,000 for the Hong Kong St John Ambulance to acquire first aid equipment and provide first aid training for teachers and staff in secondary schools; and

* $233,000 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children, youth and the elderly services.

     Other fund recipients include the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, Haven of Hope Christian Service, the Hong Chi Association, the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Pok Oi Hospital, Tai Po Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital.

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
