The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (February 25) held the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certificate Award Ceremony cum Technical Seminar to commend organisations' efforts in achieving good indoor air quality.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Anissa Wong, praised the commitment of the premises owners and property management companies participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme. Their efforts provided a pleasant indoor air environment for users of their offices and public premises, thereby protecting public health and setting good examples for others to follow. During the ceremony, Ms Wong presented awards to representatives from 126 organisations who had obtained Excellent Class or Whole-building Good Class certificates for their premises.

Since the IAQ Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places was launched in September 2003 to promote and commend good IAQ management practices, the number of premises participating in the scheme has continually increased. By the end of 2013, more than 900 certificates had been registered, representing an increase of 17 per cent compared with 2012. Among those certificates, 192 are Excellent Class and 784 are Good Class. Of the premises certified, 244 are owned by the Government and 732 are owned by private organisations.

A technical seminar was held following the ceremony, during which professionals and premises managers shared tips for achieving good IAQ with the attendees.

Organisations and individuals that would like to participate or learn more about the IAQ Certification Scheme can obtain information from the IAQ Information Centre or its dedicated website at www.iaq.gov.hk.
