Post-office appointments for Ms Julia Leung
*******************************************

The Advisory Committee on Post-office Employment for Former Chief Executives and Politically Appointed Officials has advised the Government on the proposed appointments of former Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Ms Julia Leung after leaving the Government on January 1. Ms Leung has proposed to accept appointment as Fellow of the Harvard University Asia Center. She has also proposed to accept appointment as Senior Advisor of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) and to take up a report assignment commissioned by the OMFIF.

The Advisory Committee considers that, subject to observance of certain advice it has given, the proposed appointments and assignment of Ms Leung would not cause any potential conflict of interest. The Advisory Committee also does not anticipate adverse public reaction or public perception problems arising from the proposed appointments and assignment.

In considering each case, the Advisory Committee has regard to the information provided by the former politically appointed official concerned, the assessments by relevant government bureaux or offices, and the criteria for advice as stipulated in the guidance notes on post-office employment for politically appointed officials.

Details of the case above are available at the Advisory Committee's website (www.ceo.gov.hk/poo/eng/index.htm).

The membership of the Advisory Committee is as follows:

Dr Moses Cheng Mo-chi (Chairman)
Mr Tim Lui Tim-leung
Professor Liu Pak-wai
Ms Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah
Ms Elaine Lo Yuen-man
