Following is a written reply by the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, to a question by the Hon Kenneth Leung in the Legislative Council today (February 19):
Question:
The number of visitor arrivals to Hong Kong has been rising continuously in the past 10 years, surpassing 54 million last year. Regarding the travel patterns of these visitors, will the Government set out in the table (Table I) a breakdown, by source market (Mainland China, short-haul markets, long-haul markets and new markets), of the number of visitor arrivals to Hong Kong (with a further breakdown by the number of nights they stay), their average length of stay and their average per capita spending in Hong Kong in each of the past five years?

According to the information provided by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the annual visitor arrivals, the average length of stay of overnight visitors and the average per capita spending in Hong Kong of same-day and overnight visitors by major market segments (i.e. Mainland China, short-haul, long-haul and new markets) in the past five years (2009 – 2013) are set out in Table II.
