New "Hong Kong Guide" and "Hong Kong Now and Then - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" on sale (with photos)
************************************************************

The "Hong Kong Guide" 2014 edition and "Hong Kong Now and Then - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" are now on sale. Both are produced by the Survey and Mapping Office (SMO) of the Lands Department.

Apart from quality maps covering the whole territory of Hong Kong, the 408-page new "Hong Kong Guide" contains valuable information such as indexes of streets, places and villages which can serve as the gazetteers for official Chinese and English names of streets and geographical places in Hong Kong. Indexes of estates and buildings, schools, public services and leisure and cultural facilities as well as information on public transportation are also included. Directional symbols have been added on large-scale maps to indicate one-way streets for motorists.

This year, the "Hong Kong Guide" has added photographs of some road bridges over river and navigation channels constructed in the past few decades.

The 160-page "Hong Kong Now and Then - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" is a newly compiled photo book containing aerial photos and ground shots taken since the 1950s. The photos book contains stunning views and geographical features in Hong Kong and recent and old photos of buildings, landmarks, transport termini, roads, bridges, leisure places and more, which will take readers on a nostalgic journey.

Taking aerial photos has been part of the key functions and regular work of the SMO since 1968. The photo book provides readers with a new perspective of aerial photography.

The "Hong Kong Guide" 2014 edition and "Hong Kong Now and Then - A Collection of Hong Kong Aerial Photos" are priced at $105 and $210 respectively. They are available at all SMO sales outlets, six post offices (the General Post Office, Kowloon Central Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Mong Kok Post Office, Kwun Tong Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office), certain local bookstores and the online Government Bookstore. Information on the SMO's sales outlets can be found at www.landsd.gov.hk/mapping/en/pro&ser/outlet.htm. For enquiries, please call 2231 3187 or 2780 0981.
