FEHD orders Mong Kok restaurant to suspend business for three weeks

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Mong Kok to suspend business for 21 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor at 5 Cheung Wong Road, was ordered to suspend business from today (January 26) to February 15.

"Between September 2011 and last January, a total of six convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $18,300 was levied by the court and 90 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," the spokesman said.

The licensee lodged an appeal with the Municipal Services Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 21 days in place of cancellation of the licence.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
