SCED to visit Switzerland

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart for Zurich, Switzerland tomorrow evening (January 22) for an official visit.   

     While in Zurich on January 23 and 24, Mr So will meet with senior officials to learn about the city government's efforts in promoting start-up businesses and creative industry, and conduct visits to companies and institutes to see for himself the latest developments in creative industry and innovation and technology in the country.  

     In addition, Mr So will speak at a business luncheon jointly hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Swiss-Hong Kong Business Association on January 24 to promote Hong Kong as an ideal service platform for overseas companies entering the Asian markets, especially the huge Mainland market.  

     On January 25, Mr So will attend an informal ministerial gathering of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Davos on the margins of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2014. He will share his views on ways to continue the WTO's work, building on the success of the Bali outcome, and on a work programme to tackle the remaining issues of the Doha Development Agenda.

     The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr So's absence.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong on January 26.
