The Hong Kong Flower Show 2014, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held in Victoria Park for 10 days from March 7 to 16. This year's flower show features "Blossoms of Joy" as the main theme and the kalanchoe is the theme flower.
The flower show is now inviting members of the public to take part in its plant exhibits competition. Applications are free of charge and will remain open until January 29.
The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major annual LCSD event to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Each year, it provides an opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local people and horticulture lovers from all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in flower cultivation. The last show attracted more than 510,000 visitors and over 200 organisations from 18 countries.
This year's Hong Kong Flower Show is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as the Major Sponsor.
The plant exhibits competition, comprising Open and School categories, is divided into 15 sections and 94 classes. The sections include orchid, Chinese cymbidium, potted plant, cactus and succulent, foliage and carnivorous plant, African violet, bonsai type plant, floral arrangement in Western style and Oriental manner, floral art by school children, primary and secondary school potted plant growing/nursing, and the school garden plot competition.
Section winners will receive trophies. Hong Kong Flower Show Cups will be awarded to the best exhibits in the Open and School categories. A prize presentation ceremony will be held during the show at Victoria Park.
Completed entry forms should be returned in person or by post to the Secretariat, Show Committee of Hong Kong Flower Show 2014, 11/F, Leisure and Cultural Services Headquarters, 1-3 Pai Tau Street, Sha Tin; or submitted by fax (2691 7264) on or before January 29.
