EMSD investigates lift incident at Ka Ming House, Ka Shing Court, Fanling

     The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) is investigating a rope breakage lift incident at Ka Ming House, Ka Shing Court, Fanling.

     The department received a notification from the property management of Ka Shing Court at around 12.17pm today (January 13) about a lift entrapment and suspected rope breakage incident at Lift No.2 of Ka Ming House. The EMSD immediately sent staff to conduct on-site investigation.

     The EMSD's preliminary findings revealed that one of the four suspension ropes was broken. The safety protection system functioned effectively in stopping the lift upon the rope breakage. One passenger was trapped but he sustained no injury.

     Fujitec (HK) Co. Ltd. is the supplier and maintenance contractor of the lift concerned. The last annual examination was conducted on October 7, 2013.

     To ensure public safety, the lift maintenance contractor is conducting comprehensive safety checks on all the other 23 lifts at Ka Shing Court. The EMSD has ordered the maintenance contractor to submit an incident report within seven days.
