The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a siu mei and lo mei shop in Mei Foo to suspend business for 14 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by storing open food improperly on the premises.

The siu mei and lo mei shop, located at shop 13A1 on the ground floor at No.17 Broadway Street in Mei Foo Sun Chuen, was ordered to suspend business from today (January 10) to January 23.

"In July and October last year, two convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $6,900 was levied by the court and 15 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," he added.

The licensee of the food premises had a record of two convictions for the same offence in December 2011 and December 2012. A total fine of $6,100 was levied and 15 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days in March last year.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed. The sign should be at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is available on FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
