Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 675 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 95 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (January 9) and a total of 291 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 516 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 159 for other traffic offences.

     Twenty-six pedestrians and 129 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 3,048 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2013, of which 966 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 46.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
