The following is issused on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

The Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Members) today (January 9) visited Yau Lai Estate, Yau Tong, to keep abreast of the latest developments in public rental housing.

The ExCo Members started their visit by receiving a briefing from the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) cum Director of Housing, Mr D W Pescod, on public rental housing and the latest design of public rental housing estates.

The ExCo Members then conducted a site visit in Yau Lai Estate where they looked at a typical flat to learn more about the setting and facilities of public rental housing units, and toured the estate to find out about environmental initiatives that have been adopted there, such as photovoltaic panels, rain water recycling, greening and noise mitigation measures.

The ExCo Members said that with the comfortable environment, ample leisure area, various environmental facilities and site-specific planning design that optimised land use, the housing estate provided a quality living environment for residents. The site visit helped Members gain a better understanding of the current situation and development of public rental housing. They also noted that the Government had been expediting the construction of public rental housing with a view to providing more public rental housing units to address the needs of grassroots families.

Non-official Members joining the visit today included the Convenor Mr Lam Woon-kwong, Mr Chow Chung-kong, Ms Starry Lee and Mrs Regina Ip.
