LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs visits Sha Tin Refuse Transfer Station (with photos)

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Environmental Affairs conducted a site visit to the Sha Tin Refuse Transfer Station today (December 19) to view the waste sorting operation under the Waste Composition Survey.

     LegCo Members first received a briefing on the operations of the Refuse Transfer Station and the process of Waste Composition Survey. Accompanied by the officials of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), Members then toured the waste tipping hall of the Refuse Transfer Station to observe the process of sorting and weighing of waste. The EPD conducts Waste Composition Surveys every year at various waste facilities to obtain field data for estimating the composition of waste disposed of.

     Members participating the visit included Chairman of the Panel, Ms Cyd Ho, and Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Mr Chan Kin-por, Mr Frankie Yick, Mr Wu Chi-wai, Mr Gary Fan, Mr Charles Peter Mok, Mr Chan Han-pan, Mr Kenneth Leung, Dr Elizabeth Quat, Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Tony Tse (Panel members), and Ms Emily Lau, Mr Chan Chi-chuen and Mr Poon Siu-ping (non-Panel Members).
