Following is the speech by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, at the unveiling ceremony for the Cathay Pacific aircraft livery "The Spirit of Hong Kong" this afternoon (December 9):
John (Chief Executive of Cathay Pacific, Mr John Slosar), winners, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to join you all here at this exciting ceremony to unveil Cathay Pacific's latest special livery, "The Spirit of Hong Kong". I'm pleased to do it both as the Chief Secretary for Administration and the Chairman of "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign. This livery is a wonderfully eye-catching way to showcase the remarkable spirit of our city and its people to the rest of the world.
Let me first congratulate the winners of "The Spirit of Hong Kong" campaign. Each of the selected entries represents the face of Hong Kong and the spirit of our city. It is a spirit that values people from different cultures, backgrounds and generations; a spirit that embraces new ideas and encourages creativity. Most of all, the Hong Kong spirit is something that we are all a part of.
Cathay Pacific has all along been a key player in our city's extraordinary development and economic growth. As the largest airline in Hong Kong, Cathay's professional team is our city's best ambassador in welcoming overseas visitors. I believe Cathay Pacific is an ideal partner to demonstrate this Hong Kong spirit, and the Hong Kong spirit is this can-do spirit, to our friends in destinations across the world map.
I am delighted that the "The Spirit of Hong Kong" campaign also supports the Government's "Hong Kong: Our Home" initiative launched earlier this year, which aims at promoting the spirits of care, mutual help and togetherness. I am pleased to tell you that this initiative has been a great success and we appreciate Cathay's support and the support of our whole community.
I look forward to seeing the "Spirit of Hong Kong" livery spreading the message far and wide that Hong Kong is a great place to come to visit, do business, live, learn and much more.
