***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council (LegCo) will organise a special programme on the theme of "Our Legislative Council - Then and Now" from December 5, 2013 to January 28, 2014 to enhance public understanding of the historical development and the work of LegCo. On December 5 (Thursday), Hongkong Post will issue a series of four special stamps on the theme of "Our Legislative Council" together with a series of associated philatelic products.

To make the event more memorable, the LegCo Secretariat has commissioned Hongkong Post to produce several additional philatelic souvenir items exclusively for sale at the LegCo Souvenir Shop located in the LegCo Complex. Owing to the special theme and nature of these souvenir items, and the limited quantities that are available, they make excellent collector's items.

These souvenirs include a customised special stamps presentation pack, a set of Maximum Cards, postcards and a stamp key chain.

The presentation pack, priced at $90, contains the four special stamps, a Datestamped First Day Cover exclusively designed for LegCo and a group photo of all Members of the Fifth LegCo.

The set of Maximum Cards, priced at $70, contains four LegCo-themed postcards designed in concordance with the images on the four special stamps, affixed with the respective special stamps and datestamped with a special postmark designed for the occasion. Associated postcards, priced at $25 per set, are also available for philatelists to create their own Maximum Cards.

The stamp key chain, priced at $15, encases a $1.70 special stamp that pictures the LegCo Complex together with a display of the LegCo emblem on the back.

These philatelic souvenirs will be available for sale at the LegCo Souvenir Shop from December 5 onwards, after the launch ceremony for the special programme to be held at 10.00am that day. The ceremony will be officiated by the President of LegCo, Mr Jasper Tsang; the Chairman of the House Committee,Mr Andrew Leung; and the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Ronny Tong. Other Members will also attend the ceremony.

The special programme also includes a thematic exhibition of a timeline showing the evolution of the composition and functions of the Legislature, and public engagement in LegCo business as well as a display of valuable historical photos and selected archival holdings of the Legislature. It will be open to the public immediately after the launch ceremony on December 5. Special guided educational tours will also be offered during the programme (from December 5 to January 28, 2014) to present the historical development of the Legislature.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the LegCo Complex during the programme period, from December 5 to January 28, 2014, to purchase their favourite philatelic souvenirs, visit the thematic exhibition and join a special guided educational tour.
