SED to visit Guangdong Province (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will embark on a two-day official visit to Guangdong Province this afternoon (December 2).

     After arriving in Nansha, Mr Ng will first visit the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School, which officially opened in 2007, as the fifth school of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

     Mr Ng said that Nansha has been playing an important role in the development strategies of the country in accordance with the 12th Five-Year Plan. The Graduate School has managed to merge technology research and development as well as high-end education with the development needs of the region, providing a technology education and innovation platform for Guangdong and Hong Kong to promote talent and industrial development.

     He will then go to Guangzhou this evening, where he will meet and exchange views with some Hong Kong businessmen and professionals currently in the city.

     Tomorrow Mr Ng will pay a courtesy call on the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and the Bureau of Education of Guangzhou Municipality, followed by a visit to Jinan University where he will meet with some Hong Kong students to learn about their studies and daily life in Guangzhou.

     Officials accompanying Mr Ng include the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mrs Michelle Wong; the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary for Education, Mr Kenneth Cheng; and the Principal Assistant Secretary (Higher Education), Mr Wallace Lau. They will return to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.
