Appointments to Social Welfare Advisory Committee announced

     The Government today (November 29) announced the appointment of five new members as well as the re-appointment of five incumbent members to the Social Welfare Advisory Committee (SWAC) for a term of two years with effect from December 1.

     The five new members are Mr Ip Wai-ming, Dr Annissa Lui Wai-ling, Mr Daryl Ng Win-kong, Professor Steven Ngai Sek-yum and Dr Loretta Yam Yin-chun.

     Mr Ip Wai-ming is Deputy Secretary General of the Staffs and Workers Union of Hong Kong Civil Airlines. He is also a member of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Advisory Committee.

     Dr Annissa Lui Wai-ling is Executive Director of the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service. She is also a member of the Committee on Services for Youth at Risk and the Committee on Financial Assistance for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to Save Others.

     Mr Daryl Ng Win-kong comes from the business sector. He is the Executive Director of the Sino Group and a member of the Food Wise Hong Kong Campaign Steering Committee.

     Professor Steven Ngai Sek-yum is a Professor of the Department of Social Work of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a member of the Social Work Qualification Assessment Panel of the Social Workers Registration Board.

     Dr Loretta Yam Yin-chun is Adjunct Professor of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is also Chairman of the Working Group on Secondary Care of the Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee.

     The five re-appointed members are Mr Hansen Lee Hong-kong, Mr Edmond Lee Man-bun, Mr Jovy Suen Leung-kwong, Dr Sandra Tsang Kit-man and Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointments. "I look forward to the members' valuable advice on the development of Hong Kong's social welfare policy," he said.

     He also thanked the six out-going members - Ms Maggie Chan Mei-kit, Dr Ip Yan-ming, Ms Lam Shuk-yee, Mr Christopher Law Kin-chung, Mrs Agnes Mak Tang Pik-yee and Mrs Teresa Tsien Wong Bik-kwan - for their sterling contribution during their term of service.

     The SWAC reviews social welfare services from time to time and advises the Government on all matters of social welfare policy.
