The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (November 21) announced the appointment of Dr Tony Ko Pat-sing as the Cluster Chief Executive (New Territories West) and Hospital Chief Executive (Tuen Mun Hospital) with effect from July 2, 2014.

Dr Ko is a physician by background and a specialist in geriatric medicine. He is currently the Hospital Chief Executive (HCE) of Pok Oi Hospital (POH) and the Service Director of Primary and Community Health Care of New Territories West Cluster.

Dr Ko has been in charge of the geriatric services in the Department of Medicine at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital since 2000. He moved from clinical medicine to health services management in 2008 and served as the Chief Manager (Strategy, Service Planning and Knowledge Management) and later the Chief Manager (Patient Safety & Risk Management) of the HA Head Office until the appointment to his current position in 2012.

As a clinician, Dr Ko has made significant contributions in the development of ambulatory and community care support services. In the Head Office, he was instrumental in the development of clinical services plans and the introduction of clinical risk reduction strategies in enhancing patient safety. After taking up the position of HCE in POH, Dr Ko has further expanded the hospital's inpatient and ambulatory services. He also led the hospital to achieve full accreditation by the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards earlier this year.

The HA Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, and the HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, congratulated Dr Ko on his appointment and wished him every success in taking up the new post.
