Proposed new residential care home for the elderly by non-governmental organisation
******************************************************

In response to media enquiries, the Labour and Welfare Bureau (LWB) confirmed today (November 18) that Pok Oi Hospital has submitted to the Social Welfare Department (SWD) an application for a grant from the Lotteries Fund to develop and operate a residential care home for the elderly (RCHE) at a site in Tuen Mun in the New Territories being the subject of donation to be made to Pok Oi Hospital by Henderson Land Development Company Limited.

"RCHEs are in acute demand in Hong Kong and we are striving to provide more. We welcome such donation of land to enable a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to develop a much-needed RCHE", the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said.

Mr Cheung said that the Government would facilitate NGOs to develop the land under their ownership including land donated to them for development of RCHEs and/or other needy welfare facilities.

NGOs may apply for Lotteries Fund grants for implementing RCHEs and/or other social welfare projects supported by the SWD. All applications for Lotteries Fund grants, including that from Pok Oi Hospital for the proposed RCHE, will be processed in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures.
