******************************************************

The contemporary sounds of Asia will meet the music of Eastern Europe in the "Uasiankrainian Jam" concert featuring the local JohnChen Ensemble and Ukrainian musicians in mid-November. In the concert, to be held at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre, the Ensemble will take the audience on a world music journey linking up with the sounds of Ukraine, a country renowned for its wide-ranging folk traditions.

In addition to presenting world music, the concert will feature traditional songs from Ukraine performed by Ukrainian accordion player Andrew Birkun and singer Oksana Birkun. The two special guests will also jam with the local musicians to create delightfully fresh Eurasian musical landscapes.

JohnChen Ensemble has been fusing different cultures and genres to inspire and explore a sonic world without borders since 2006. The Ensemble's ground-breaking approach and remarkable choices of venues, eclectic repertoire of original works and innovative arrangements combine with limitless creativity to provide a whole new musical experience. John Chen, as the artistic director of the Ensemble, is a composer, arranger, guitarist and producer. He will also play the kobza during the concert. Other members of the Ensemble include Herbert Cheung (violin and erhu), Les Fong (drum set and percussion) and Victor Wong (double bass).
