The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene cancelled the licence of a restaurant in Yau Ma Tei today (November 7).
The operator of the restaurant, located at shop A on the ground floor at 41 Temple Street, repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the business area.
"In February this year, two convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.
"A total fine of $8,500 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," he added.
The licensee of the food premises had a record of four convictions for the same offence between March and November last year. A total fine of $11,500 was levied and 60 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven and 14 days in last September and this March respectively.
The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
