FS continues visit to Beijing (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (November 5) conducted the second day of his visit to Beijing, calling on the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

     Mr Tsang started the day by meeting with the Chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, Mr Xiang Junbo. Both sides agreed to support and encourage more Mainland enterprises to establish their captive insurers in Hong Kong.

     This was followed by a meeting with the Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, Mr Xu Xianping. They discussed the opportunities and the present situation of Hong Kong's development as an offshore Renminbi business centre.

     Before concluding the day, Mr Tsang met with the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Wang Guangya. Mr Tsang briefed Mr Wang on his meetings with officials of relevant Central Government bodies in Beijing. The discussion then focused on financial issues, including Hong Kong's overall economic situation, the Government's fiscal position, maintaining Hong Kong's financial stability and offshore Renminbi business.

     Tomorrow (November 6), Mr Tsang will visit the China Banking Regulatory Commission and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
