Appointment of Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong

The Government announced today (October 25) the re-appointment of Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung as the Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) for one year with effect from June 1, 2014.

"Dr Cheung has served the AA as a Member since June 2003. He was first appointed as the Chairman in 2008, and was re-appointed in 2011. Under the leadership of Dr Cheung, the AA has risen to the various challenges in recent years. In particular, the AA is now proceeding full steam ahead with the necessary planning work for the third runway project. The statutory environmental impact assessment is being finalised and its timely completion next year is crucial. In addition, the AA is developing the North Commercial District on the airport island, and has started the process for the global recruitment of the next Chief Executive Officer," a Government spokesman said.

"The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, would like to thank Dr Cheung for his commitment to the AA and his leadership over the years. Professor Cheung is grateful that Dr Cheung has accepted to stay on as the Chairman of the AA for an additional year to steer the AA at this critical juncture," the spokesman added.

Under the Airport Authority Ordinance, the Chairman and Members of the AA are appointed by the Chief Executive.
