A one-off additional payment of $1,000 will be issued by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) this Friday (October 25) to primary and secondary students on Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) who are in receipt of the flat-rate grant for school-related expenses.
A spokesman for the SWD said today (October 22) that this programme had been approved by the Commission on Poverty in July 2013. Each eligible primary or secondary student, including students receiving CSSA, will receive an additional one-off grant in the 2013/14 school year. The grant aims to enhance support for the parents of needy primary and secondary students and help meet their various school-related expenses.
"The grant will be paid through the existing CSSA payment method, i.e. through bank payment credited to the designated bank accounts of the recipients. Hence, eligible recipients are not required to make an application," he said.
For enquiries, recipients can call the SWD hotline on 2343 2255 or contact their respective Social Security Field Units.
