The District Court today (September 30) sentenced a 27-year-old expatriate man to an imprisonment of three years and eight months for possessing and using counterfeit credit cards.
The court heard that on February 22, the man was arrested for presenting a counterfeit credit card to purchase a bottle of wine at a shop in Causeway Bay. Officers of Commercial Crime Bureau later seized 67 other counterfeit bankcards and devices such as data encoder in his residence.
Subsequent to Police investigations, the man was charged with one count of possessing false instruments and one count of using a false instrument. He was convicted upon his own plea to both charges on September 10.
Police reiterate that possessing and using counterfeit credit cards are serious offences. Police are determined to take prevention and enforcement actions against such crimes to maintain a safe and stable business environment in Hong Kong.
