Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at Tuen Mun Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement that some in-patients were confirmed to be Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers, the spokesperson of Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (September 27):

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. One more 75-year-old male patient was confirmed as a VRE carrier during contact tracing. He did not have related clinical symptoms and had been discharged earlier.

     The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
