Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in TWGHs Wong Tai Sin Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Tai Sin Hospital made the following update today (September 11) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients who tested positive for Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) in a Tuberculosis and Chest ward:

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, contact tracing has been performed. One more 40-year-old female patient has been confirmed as a VRE carrier today, but without clinical symptoms. The patient is still hospitalised and is now under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.

     The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
