The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, began her visit to Thailand today (September 4). She attended a lunch gathering with people from Hong Kong, visited a hospital and met with business leaders in Bangkok.

At noon, Mrs Lam attended a lunch gathering with Hong Kong people living and working in Thailand. She briefed them on the latest developments in Hong Kong and encouraged them to contribute to a closer relationship between Hong Kong and Thailand.

"The bilateral trade and investment relationship between Hong Kong and Thailand dates back years. The continued steady growth of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations market, in particular the Greater Mekong Sub-region including Thailand, presents plenty of business opportunities for Hong Kong," Mrs Lam said.

In the afternoon, Mrs Lam visited a hospital, which is the largest private hospital in Southeast Asia with 538 beds and 30 specialty centres, to learn about the medical services there.

Mrs Lam then met with local business leaders to understand the latest developments in Thailand, and to promote investment opportunities for Thai businesses in Hong Kong.

"Through Hong Kong's role in the opening up of the Pearl River Delta region, our investors and professionals are experienced in the challenges and opportunities of unlocking the potential of new markets. Thai companies can tap into our experience in opening up new markets," Mrs Lam said.

Mrs Lam will continue her visit to Thailand tomorrow (September 5), meeting with senior officials and addressing a luncheon co-organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore.
