Invest Hong Kong marks 3 000th project milestone (with photo)
*******************************************************

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) today (September 4) celebrated the completion of its 3 000th investment project. This marks a significant achievement for the department, which is tasked with attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into Hong Kong.

Since the inception of InvestHK in 2000, the companies it has supported have created over 33 950 new jobs in the first year of operation or expansion and brought almost HK$79 billion of investment to Hong Kong.

The ASB Biodiesel plant in Tseung Kwan O is InvestHK's 3 000th investment project and its first from Bahrain. ASB Biodiesel is majority-owned by Al Salam Bank-Bahrain. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, presented a commemorative certificate to the company's representative to congratulate it on its successful setting up in Hong Kong.

Mr So said, "I would like to congratulate InvestHK on its continued success in attracting overseas and Mainland companies to set up their business operations here. Each and every one of its projects is a strong vote of confidence in Hong Kong as Asia's leading business capital."

The Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Simon Galpin, said, "It is encouraging that our department has assisted 3 000 overseas and Mainland companies in setting up or expanding their business operations in Hong Kong in just 13 years. This marks a significant milestone for the development of InvestHK."

The Al Salam Asia-Pacific Vice President, Mr Rene Lee, said, "Al Salam has seen Asia as a key region for some time, making our first investment in Asia in the mid-2000s. ASB Biodiesel is one of our earliest Asian investments, and that the project is in Hong Kong made it particularly attractive because of the city's strategic location within Asia, in particular as a gateway to China, its transparent tax system, and pro-business environment."

The Chief Executive Officer of ASB Biodiesel (Hong Kong) Ltd, Mr Anthony Dixon, said, "ASB Biodiesel is honoured to be named the 3 000th FDI project of InvestHK and we would like to express our appreciation to Simon Galpin and his team at InvestHK for the invaluable advice and assistance they provided to us during our development phase."

Mr Dixon added, "Investment in environmental services and infrastructure is a growth opportunity in Hong Kong just as much as in any big city and I hope that our success here will encourage others to follow suit in the coming years."
